Thoughts on selling art in the Digital Age

As an artist, the question that is most challenging to me is how to sell. My chosen tool for creating is the computer. With that said, how can I make what I design marketable?
I have discovered the best way is to make a few of my pieces available in other media formats (such as posters and professional grade prints)

While it may seem like the internet has killed the market (due to people being able to print off images @ home) that is not necessarily the case. For the serious collector, a flimsy paper print-out just won't suffice. They want quality, and if the artist is willing to go to the effort of granting them that quality, then they are more apt to desire to purchase the work.

With the debut of programs like photoshop in recent years, editing one's own photos has become common practice. Nonetheless, the market for professional graphic designers is alive and well.

Art, Economy, and The Average Joe

Some of the most interesting inspiration for a post comes from unexpected places. Recently my wife and I have been working on new art, I even designed a poster, which I have sitting in our apartment waiting to be sold.

Even if you have accounts on many social media sites, getting people to take the step from "liking" your pieces there, to actually purchasing it, is not always easy. I have many friends and family who have displayed interest in my work, but sales are still stagnant.

Many say this economy does not afford them the luxury of buying art, but I keep prices low to accomodate those who were not exactly born into trust fund central, if you know what I mean.

You might say "Do art for the sake of art" which I do, but in my opinion there is nothing wrong with reaping the rewards for a job well done. It's not primarily about $ at all, but the fact is, in this internet age there is no need to be a starving artist. (Which I have been in the past, quite literally)

Everybody's got to live, and if one can use their talents to earn their bread and butter, why not?

New Adventures

Woke early yesterday for a haircut, and then afterward we headed up to Burley to browse. We found some great thrift store furniture that would have been ideal for our apartment. Unfortunately we were unable to buy it, due to the dilemma of transporting such a mammoth thing back to our place.

Burley is a little ways from where we are, (about the next town over.)

I didn't want us having to lug around such gargantuan cargo, especially given that the car we borrowed wasn't built for hauling freight. On a sidenote, we found another neat thing at the thrift shop that we were able to get.

A brown blazer/jacket that looked spic and span new. I guess the previous owner didn't want it anymore, though don't ask me why. Ah well, as they say one man's trash is another's treasure.

We went to a western shop on the way to eat, we saw some cool stuff but it was overpriced.

On the way back, we stopped off at BK for some Whopper sandwiches.

I know that's not the ending readers expected, you probably wanted to hear about some big adventure, like that we went skydiving or something, but unfortunately such a grand adventure as that has not yet occurred. Never know what tomorrow might bring though.
